The neighbourhood of South Surrey is part of the city of Surrey, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

South Surrey is amenable to cycling as there are a good number of bike lanes. This area will also draw physically active people as it is conducive to those who travel by foot; many day-to-day needs can be met without the use of a car. The best way to get around in South Surrey is very often a car. It is easy to find a place to park, and it is a reasonably short car ride to the closest highway, such as Highway 99, from any location in South Surrey. In contrast, public transit users may experience few options in this neighbourhood due to the service's low frequency. Thankfully, house owners benefit from about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far from most homes.

Services

It is a reasonably short walk to access both primary and secondary schools from anywhere in South Surrey. Parents have the choice between public and private schools at both the elementary and secondary school level. However, families may find it challenging to get to daycares on foot. With respect to eating, the nearest supermarket in South Surrey is generally only a rather short walk away. A limited variety of restaurants and cafes can be found as well.

Character

The character of South Surrey is exemplified by its relaxed atmosphere. This area is very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, there are over 250 public green spaces close by for residents to check out, including Sunnyside Park and Fergus Watershed Biodiversity Preserve, and they are very well-distributed, making them easy to access.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing around half of dwellings in South Surrey, and the rest of the properties are mainly small apartment buildings. Roughly 45% of properties in this part of the city were built after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
